Crane pulleys are core components in hoisting machinery, consisting of a combination of fixed and moving pulleys. Their main functions are to achieve mechanical advantage and change the direction of force application. They are widely used in scenarios such as overhead cranes and port handling operations.
Crane sheaves are critical load-bearing guide components in the hoisting mechanism of a crane. They are typically cast or forged from high-strength alloy steel (such as 34CrMo4) and integrated into the upper part of the hook assembly. Their main function is to guide the steel wire rope as it moves through the rope groove of the crane sheave, reducing wear on the wire rope while ensuring efficient force transmission.
The sheaves feature a deep groove design (conforming to DIN 15401 or FEM standards), with a groove radius approximately 1.07 times the wire rope diameter, ensuring maximum wire contact area and preventing rope jumping. Internal spherical roller bearings or bronze bushings reduce rotational friction (friction coefficient ≤0.015), ensuring smooth operation even under partial load conditions.
Product Series Classification
Crane sheave blocks are core components of the crane lifting system. By combining different numbers of sheaves, they achieve various load capacities and improve mechanical efficiency. Details are as follows:
Four-Sheave Block
Single Sheave Block: A single sheave block consists of a single sheave, bearing system, housing, and hook. It is compact in size, suitable for light lifting and guiding applications. The sheave is typically made of high-strength alloy steel or wear-resistant nylon. It is commonly used in light cranes, manual hoists, construction site guide pulleys, stage equipment, sailing rigging, etc.
Double Sheave Block: A double sheave block consists of two parallel sheaves, providing a 2:1 ratio and doubling the lifting force. It usually features a deep groove design to enhance wire rope stability and reduce rope vibration. The bearing system optimizes load distribution, suitable for medium lifting requirements. Commonly used in small electric hoists, jib cranes, ship loading/unloading equipment, industrial production line hoisting, etc.
Triple Sheave Block: A triple sheave block uses a three-sheave configuration, typically arranged in a “2 moving, 1 fixed” or “1 moving, 2 fixed” layout to distribute the force on the wire rope and reduce wear on individual sheaves. It provides a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio (depending on the rope reeving method), suitable for heavy-duty operations with frequent lifting. Commonly used in medium-sized overhead cranes, gantry cranes, port container handling equipment, heavy machinery maintenance, hoisting, etc.
Four Sheave Block: A four sheave block consists of four sheaves, providing a 4:1 or higher ratio, significantly reducing the tension required on the motor/drum. It is made of high-strength alloy steel, suitable for large-tonnage lifting (e.g., over 50 tons), and also applicable for ultra-heavy-duty lifting systems. Often equipped with a balance beam design to ensure uniform load distribution. It is commonly used in large metallurgical cranes, shipbuilding gantry cranes, heavy equipment lifting on offshore platforms, large bridge construction projects, etc.
All types of crane sheave blocks utilize high-strength alloy steel sheaves, low-friction bearings, and standardized groove designs. These designs ensure wire rope longevity while complying with international safety standards (such as ISO/FEM), and are widely used in heavy industries ranging from logistics to metallurgy and ports.
